A simple questionnaire was published some weeks ago on the Kaleidoscope blog. The questions were focused to those topics, which were suggested to change in the Catechism of Catholic Church (CCC), by the German Catholic Bishop Conference, and were published on ncronline.org.
The responders were asked to sign if they
agree + ,
disagree ─ ,
or don’t know ? ’
that CCC should be modified about declaring that:
- every kind of artificial birth control is sinful,
- every kind of cohabitation before marriage is a grievous sin,
- every kind of homosexual relationships are sinful and disordered,
- divorce is a perpetual mortal sin, and remarried divorced people must not receive Sacraments.
The activity of the faithful was weak, the questionnaire was filed only by some of those faithful who agree with the change of the CCC at least in one of four topics. Twenty answers were given, and 19 could be evaluated, which are showed in the table below.
Some of the answers were explained, but it was not obligatory. Verbal explanations were sometime subjective, and didn’t contain any specific theological or exegetical justification.
We can therefore conclude that the Hungarian faithful are not very active in expression, or explanation of their opinion about any kind of CCC reform, nor if they agree with it, neither if they don’t. It results huge challenges for those faithful, who would like to achieve any kind of changes in the catechism in Hungary.
