Budapest Police Headquarters issued its decision on Good Friday at the last working day before Easter which prohibited the 7th July 2012 Pride parade. Since the police gave a trumped-up and ridiculous official claim for the ban of the pride – they wrote that it is impossible to redirect the traffic to another route – (as it can be find in the contribution of the festival’s organizers) and while the police authority is a centralized organization, in which the governmental intention can smoothly expressed, the ban of the Pride is a clear political decision of the government. This step is not surprising based on the manifestations of those who are backing the Hungarian government coalition regarding gay rights however, it means a worrying trend in the perspective of fundamental human rights mainly in Hungary, but indirectly in the EU and even the world in general.
So if the EU's leading states and the countries with the rule of law in the developed world do not want to leave, that the plague of restriction of fundamental human rights and the elimination of the democracy can spread to their countries as well, than it is necessary to halt these trends very explicitly and consistently. Until the homophobic phenomena occurred outside the EU only, political leaders committed to the democratic rule of law had less influence over the development of things however, now their opportunity and the responsibility are also higher as a reason of the fact that an EU Member State governments have decided to deny the basic human rights guaranteeing by international treaties from its citizens due to sneaking political calculations.
